Job Design
“The twin sister to autonomy and freedom is responsibility and accountability. If someone is given an area of responsibility, not only must they be set free to do it, they must also be held accountable for what they do.” – Henry Cloud
So often the reason why people are miserable in their jobs and perform their jobs poorly is because those jobs are poorly designed. Job design is a basic management principle, but it uncommon enough that it often takes a leader to do it.

Job Design Interview Protocol
The job design interview protocol is an interactive learning tool for learning accountability and job design. We recommend using this activity after a broader discussion about accountability, such as that provided by the “Irresponsibility, Accountability, and Obsessiveness Stories” tool: CPL-2020-001-Accountability-Stories.pdf

Designing jobs
It is one thing to follow principles of job design. It is another thing to design them with compassion, courage, curiosity, and ambition. It is yet another thing to give employees a chance to craft their jobs as well.
