The Center Launches an 18-Hour, Two Semester, Experiental Learning Class, Elevator

Playground of Possibility : University of Louisville – College of Business

We are thrilled to announce that in August 2025 we will be piloting a groundbreaking, 18-hour, two-semester, experiential learning, interdisciplinary class for undergraduate students, called Elevator. Students in this class work collaboratively to lead real change in the Louisville area.

  • Students in Business Administration, Communications, Criminal Justice, Management, Sociology, Sustainability, and Urban Studies majors work in interdisciplinary teams for at least 25 hours per week to create change.
  • Examples of change leadership projects include improving Louisville’s green spaces, reducing loneliness in senior care centers, growing local businesses, and reducing food insecurity.
  • This class is supported by the Bufford Family Foundation and managed by the Center for Positive Leadership.
  • Students receive mentorship throughout the class from professional experts, leadership experts, and faculty.
  • Upon completion, students receive access to the Elevator network for both mentorship and job placement advantages.
  • Student achievements will be celebrated at the Center for Positive Leadership’s annual leadership conference, Navigating Leadership Now at the end of the school year.

“Our vision is to make hands-on learning a common experience for our students, to give them deep knowledge and immediate job readiness” said Ryan Quinn, Academic Director.
