The Relationship Between Gender Role Stereotypes and Requisite Military Leadership Characteristics

A survey of stereotypes about women leaders in a predominantly male work environment found that there is disparity in men’s perceptions of the similarities between women and leaders, women recognize similarities between women and leaders, senior students possess stronger masculine gender role stereotypes for successful officers, even when people have experience being led by female leaders stereotypes did not change and successful female cadet leaders see characteristics commonly ascribed to both women and men in successful officers.
