University athletic team captains agreed with themes that are commonly found in conference codes of ethics but were relatively neutral about their effect on teammates’ behavior or on their responsibility for encouraging ethical conduct among their teammates. They exhibited limited familiarity with their own conference’s code of ethics and were not sure how much their teammates followed their lead with regard to ethical conduct.
