Do you want to understand and improve your ability to practice positive leadership? Start here! These online instruments will help you identify strengths, areas for improvement, and tools you can use for personal development.

Positive Leadership Simple Self-Assessment (Short and Long Version)

The Center for Positive Leadership provides two free versions of our leadership self-assessment.

The short version, which takes about 16 minutes to complete, gives you a list of virtues from which you may assess yourself and asks you to select four. It will then provide you with a series of questions about those four virtues and their positive opposites to help you determine how well you exhibit those virtues when you lead.

The long version takes approximately an hour to complete and asks you to assess your leadership on the full list of virtues and their positive opposites. It is a much more thorough (and therefore, more time-consuming) assessment.

Both assessments end by giving you links to tools, events, recordings, and professionals who can help you develop your leadership in these areas.

Positive Leadership Advanced Reflection

This instrument asks you to identify concrete situations in which you did, or could have, practiced positive leadership and then gives you questions to help you reflect on these experiences. It helps you to generate nuanced, concrete, and practical insights for developing your capacity for positive leadership. It also gives you an opportunity to seek insight and feedback from others as part of the reflection process. It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Because of its increased sophistication, it requires more writing and more intense reflection than our other assessment tools.

Positive Leadership 360-Degree Assessment

If you would like a more comprehensive assessment for yourself or for your employees, try the 360-degree version of our positive leadership assessment by contacting us at cpl@louisville.edu. This assessment allows participants to receive anonymous feedback on their leadership from supervisors, peers, and direct reports.

This is a service in which you give us the names and contact information of the participants and the people who will be rating them, and then we contact them, collect, aggregate, and disseminate the assessment data for you. We recommend that you have a professional coach available to help people make sense of and handle the emotions of this feedback in a productive way. If you need coaches, please consider using one or more of our affiliated professionals, among whom are many excellent coaches and consultants.

 

Pricing for this service is as follows.

  • Assessments for 1 – 10 participants: $150 per person.
  • Assessments for 11 – 30 participants: $135 per person.
  • Assessments for 31 – 60 participants: $115 per person.
  • Assessments for 61 or more participants: $90 per person.
